About Us

Welcome to Stadig Johnson

Our Name

Before the turn of the 20th Century, it was common for Scandinavian families to use simple, patronymic names–adding “son” for male children, or “dotter” for females, to their father’s first name. Johan’s son became Johansson, Sigrid’s daughter became Sigridsdotter.

To avoid confusion, Swedish military recruits were often assigned an additional name, based on ideas like military or personal characteristics, such as “Stolt” meaning proud, or like our founder’s paternal great-grandfather, “Stadig”, meaning steadfast, and level-headed.

We take great pride in that apt description of the way we provide sound, steady, high-quality counsel to each of our clients. From wealth transfer planning to expert witness counsel, we provide careful and caring service in fulfilling your unique needs.

Our Approach

Our firm appreciates that every individual and each family is unique. In addition to assets, clients have personal values, needs, goals and wishes that must be communicated and understood before the proper plan can be developed.

Who we can help

The firm represents many high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals and families with substantial accumulated or inherited wealth. The firm also has clients with significant ownership interests in public and closely held businesses or real estate and has developed extensive knowledge in these areas, including working relationships for valuation studies when indicated. Other clients include professionals, including lawyers and physicians, and current and retired officers of publicly held companies. We are also pleased to work with young persons who are only beginning their careers, families and asset growth.

What we can offer

We have the experience to inform our clients about the whole range of strategies, from straightforward to sophisticated wealth transfer planning tools, which will help to minimize taxes while accomplishing the substantive objectives of our clients. We have also collaborated with clients in the development of mission statements about family values, wealth transfer and management. We often recommend the use of Revocable Trusts to avoid probate but have solid probate administration experience and can provide exceptional guidance through the process of probating an estate.

Our areas of practice

Our practice is limited primarily to Trusts and Estate Planning & Administration, Closely Held Businesses, Gifting, Charitable Planning & Organizations, Tax Planning, Family Advising & Expert Witness.

Additional ways we can assist you

We collaborate and regularly work as part of a team with our clients’ other advisors, e.g. investment advisors, corporate legal counsel, accountants, trust officers, foundation managers, family offices, insurance agents, etc. We welcome the opportunity to meet new prospective clients, so we can discuss their needs and so they can determine if we could serve as an appropriate resource. There is no charge for such an introductory meeting if you decide to not engage our firm. We are willing to travel to facilitate our services. We are pleased to provide references upon request.
